Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of musculoskeletal pain and movement dysfunction. While it shares similarities in treatment to Remedial Massage, Myotherapy prioritises identifying the underlying cause of your symptoms to treat both the symptoms and the cause through hands-on treatment, education, exercise, and lifestyle modifications to prevent your pain from returning

Key Points

  • Myotherapy treats both the cause and symptoms of musculoskeletal pain, with a focus on long-term recovery and prevention.
  • Myotherapy goes beyond hands-on treatment by combining targeted rehabilitation, exercise, and lifestyle strategies for lasting results.
  • Appointments include a thorough assessment with tailored treatment and education to help you to understand, manage, and address the cause of your pain.
  • Myotherapy can help you.

The biggest difference between Myotherapy and Remedial massage extends beyond what happens in the treatment room. The added benefit of providing rehabilitation exercises allows us to continue to see improvements to your pain over the mid-long term, as strength combined with flexibility is often the key to lasting results. As part of Myotherapy’s long-term care approach, you may receive warmups, stretches and mobility work, dedicated rehab exercises, or lifestyle modifications that are tailored to your goals.

Similar to Remedial Massage, Myotherapy still focuses on hands on treatment, with dry needling and exercise added to the toolkit. Although each appointment will vary according to your presentation, we’ll firstly go through your current symptoms and how they’ve come about, gather some history on any previous injuries or medical conditions, run through movement assessments and special tests to better understand what’s contributing towards your symptoms, and then move into treatment. Rather than just looking at what’s hurting, we will often look at how the joints above and below are moving, as sometimes the area in pain is a result of surrounding muscles and joints doing more or less work than they should.

The first treatment will be focused on increasing movement and reducing your pain down to a manageable level, and helping you understand what’s causing your symptoms. The treatment provided can include a range of modalities that are tailored to your presentation and personal preferences and presentation including Deep Tissue Massage, Dry Needling, Trigger Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques, and Joint Mobilisations. We will discuss any preferences, and benefits of the modalities prior to beginning treatment.

Myotherapy can assist with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, ranging from the neck all the way down to the foot and everything in between! Whether it’s postural pain from sitting at your desk, or strains from your weekend footy game, Myotherapy can help you get back to feeling and playing your best.

Myotherapy can help treat and manage conditions such as :

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neck pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Sporting injuries
  • Gym injuries
  • TMJ pain management
  • Mobility restrictions
  • And many more!

If pain, stiffness, or movement restrictions are stopping you from doing the things you enjoy, Myotherapy can help identify the underlying causes and develop a personalised treatment and rehabilitation plan to help you move and live life with confidence again. If you’re unsure whether Myotherapy is the right fit for you, our team is always happy to answer your questions and guide you towards the most appropriate care.
