What is a biomechanical assessment?

A biomechanical assessment is a fundamental part of our process at Pride Podiatry. It provides us with the information we need to determine the next steps towards the recovery of your foot, heel, or ankle.

Essentially, a biomechanical assessment is an assessment of joint and muscle health and strength, as well as movement and gait (walking) assessment. A biomechanical assessment can also involve more demanding functional tasks like hopping, skipping, and running.

What a biomechanical assessment involves

  • Slow-motion video capture of walking and running
  • Muscle testing for strength, flexibility and control
  • Endurance testing of the foot and leg
  • Joint assessment

What a treatment plan involves

After establishing the contributing factors to your issue, we will develop a treatment plan that is unique for you. This will generally involve:

  • Appropriate footwear advice
  • Activity advice and exercise planning
  • Recommended exercises to help regain strength, control and flexibility
  • In some cases, orthotics may be part of your short or long term recovery plan.

If you are experiencing foot pain, we recommend you make an appointment with one of our podiatrists to perform a biomechanical assessment and support your journey to recovery.
